During the resistance against the United States from 1963 to 1965, this site was chosen as a location for a field hospital, later renamed as Military Hospital Cave.

The field hospital inside Military Hospital Cave could accommodate up to 100 wounded soldiers. It consisted of 17 hospital rooms and various other rooms for control, command, and strategic planning during the resistance against the United States.

Experiences

Military Hospital Cave features a unique architectural design of 1-0-2 that astounds visitors upon their visit. Up to the present time, Military Hospital Cave has retained its original design from the period of resistance against the United States.

Exploring the Cave’s wartime design

The entrance to the cave was constructed with flexible wooden doors that could be easily assembled or disassembled to evade enemy surveillance or attacks. The entrance was also shielded with robust spherical iron covers to resist various types of projectiles.

The Military Hospital Cave comprises three levels housing 17 treatment rooms and multiple other functional rooms, spanning an area of 2000m2. The first level was solidly constructed with reinforced concrete, while the upper two levels were carved from natural stone.

The structure of Military Hospital Cave remains enclosed within the depths of Hung Son Cave, concealing any appearance from the outside. Its exterior maintains a primitive and natural look. The enemy wouldn’t suspect that deep within the cave lay the main headquarters and medical treatment facility.

Inside Military Hospital Cave, the scenes of wartime activities are recreated, helping visitors understand the living conditions of leaders and soldiers in the most realistic manner.
